More on Jim Carrey’s Misinformation Campaign
26 April, 2009
A significant number of bloggers have offered excellent critiques of Jim Carrey’s April 29 piece on vaccination in The Huffington Post. (If it’s a topic you’re interested in, check out the must-reads listed at the bottom.)
One I hadn’t seen until this morning, at Liz Ditz’s excellent blog, I Speak of Dreams, addresses a couple of important things I haven’t seen detailed in some of the other pieces on the topic:
- Carrey’s alarmist claim of “more than 100 vaccines in development”
- His claims about the profitiability of vaccines
- His inaccurate attack on Paul Offit, MD
Highly recommended reading.
(I’ll also re-iterate her call to go to Autism-Change.org to send a letter of protest to Mr. Carrey.)
Here are some great posts on the Jim Carrey piece (I’m adding links only to the ones I’ve read; Liz has a more complete list at I Speak of Dreams):
- “An Open Letter to Jim Carrey” (Left Brain/Right Brain)
- “Fire Mashall Bill discusses vaccines and autism on The Huffington Post” (Respectful Insolence)
- “Jim Carrey Goes Solo Against Vaccines” (Science-Based Parenting)
- “Jim Carrey loves the pro-disease movement” (Bad Astronomy)
- “Huff Post & Jim Carrey on Vaccines: Epic Fail” (Talking Points Memo)
- “Jim Carrey getting dumb and dumber” (Skepacabra)

Bad Astronomy has another take-down of an anti-vax loon, this time in Australia (my title not his):
Death of Baby Dana McCaffery from whooping cough.
